EAS eletronic article surveillance

EAS eletronic article surveillance

Due to the increasing numbers of thefts in retail stores, merchandise protection and article protection has become an increasingly important topic to protect shops against shoplifting.

The electronic article surveillance (EAS) is a very effective method to protect your merchandise against theft. Various national studies have researched the reasons for deficiencies in the inventories of retail stores. These studies have discovered that 30% of the decrease is caused by internal theft, 60% results from shoplifters. The remaining 10% were mostly administrative mistakes. Article protection systems can therefore help to reduce up to 90% of the inventory deficiencies and to prevent them.

The article surveillance system operates very simple. A transmitter sends a magnetic one or a RF signal with a certain frequency to a receiver. This signal generates an area in which the security etiquettes or security tags cause a interference. This interference signal is recognised by the receiver. The kind of the interference signal can be generated only by the hard etiquettes or tag, the same disturbance with other background is extremely unlikely. If a security etiquette is brought into the protected area (mostly the entrance), the system releases an alarm.
